Great balance between good and evil with an amazing complexity to the lead
protagonist. Totally gruesome in parts and yet light and amusing in others.
It’s built around compulsive, inter-connected (by characters and geography)
storylines. Recommended, yes!

"Chameleon" by Martin Hegley is a gripping thriller that delves into
the twisted minds of a serial killer and his manipulative accomplice. The book
follows the story of Stefan Slade, a ruthless and cunning lawyer who is willing
to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals, and Alfie Loughton, a troubled
young man who has been failed by the system and forced to live on the streets.
When their paths cross, Slade sees an opportunity to use Alfie for his own
twisted purposes. Meanwhile, the city is reeling from a series of gruesome
murders of young, professional women, which are attributed to the Shard
Slasher. DCI James Fowler is tasked with catching the killer, but little does
he know that he is dealing with two master manipulators who are expertly
camouflaged within the fabric of the city. The plot is intricate and keeps the
reader on the edge of their seat. The author's writing style is immersive and
vivid, and he has a talent for building suspense and creating a sense of dread
that permeates the entire book. The characters are complex and
multi-dimensional, particularly Slade and Alfie, who are both fascinating and
disturbing in their own ways. One of the strengths of "Chameleon" is
its exploration of the themes of power, manipulation, and abuse. The book shows
how a person in a position of authority can use that power to exploit and victimize
others, and how society's failures can lead to the creation of monsters. It is
a chilling reminder of the darkness that lies within human nature. Overall,
"Chameleon" is a well-crafted and compelling thriller that will
appeal to fans of the genre. The book is both entertaining and
thought-provoking, and it leaves a lasting impression on the reader. Highly
recommended.
